Childhood is a short and precious time. When it is impossible for a parent to stay home, there is no better place to experience these things than in a quality Family Child care setting.
Sandy Land Family Child Care is dedicated to helping raise happy, polite, curious, self-assured children. I believe all children are special and full of promise. The most important thing we can teach children is that they are loved wholly and unconditionally they are valued. I do my best to make your child’s day care world magical and help them discover the magic in them. I aspire to open the children’s minds so they know they are brilliant, creative, compassionate and marvelous. Children need to feel safe to know how to laugh. I encourage silly, it is okay to have a purple sky and a green George in Sandy Land, it is a safe place to explore your creative being and laugh along with others. I believe our children deserve to be surrounded by Music, Books, Nature, Art supplies, Blocks, Dress up cloths, toys to take them on a path of discovery, and the freedom to explore their environment. Childhood is a time to learn about Love, Trust and opening our minds to the joy of exploration. Unless children have these basics, it's very unrealistic to expect them to embrace the challenges of learning and problem solving. I encourage children to share their interest with the group and bring us all along for the adventures of their design.
I utilize a combination teaching style of Reggio Emilia / emergent learning and a Waldorf / Rudolf Steiner education style.
A key component to teaching in the emergent style is to listen to the children's questions and think of ways for them to seek out and discover their own answers. Once again, it all comes back to self-worth, the foundation of learning. There's nothing like mastery over a problem, challenge or difficult question. When we know what we're doing, we feel capable, competent, in control and empowered.
Bringing Waldorf Education style into the mix means that I incorporate music, dance, and theater, writing, literature, legends and myths. These are not simply subjects to be read about, taught and tested. They are experienced. Through these experiences, we cultivate a lifelong love of learning as well as the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world. I strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, inspire the senses and the mind.
I believe it is very important to co parent children. I encourage family members to visit and to look at the "LOOK WHAT WE DID" wall, read our newsletters "Sandy Land Press", and visit our "PICTURES" on the web site to see pictures illustrating the children's adventures. These are all excellent ways to keep my families informed as to the value of the kind of learning environment I am providing. I find when a child's family is informed and pleased with what is happening, they often contribute suggestions of their own to further enrich their child's education. One of the best advantages we can give our children is a carefree happy childhood. Together we build the future.
